Health, Safety and Environment!

The HSE deals with all safety and health issues in all workplaces and during all the work activities. EDISON is responsible for making sure that the work done by its employees is safe and healthy.

  • Systematically identify hazard
  • Systematically manage those hazards.
  • Manage hazards by eliminating them, isolating them, or minimizing them, in that order of preference.
  • Provide suitable protective clothing and equipment to staff.
  • Provide safety information to staff.
  • Provide training or supervision so that work is done safely.
  • Monitor the health of employees to ensure that their work is not having a detrimental effect on their health.
  • Provide opportunities for its staff to contribute to all those things.
  • Ensure education, interest and awareness training to new employees in safe working methods before the assumption of duty. 
  • Ensure that the organization is a safe place, and the environment, facilities, equipment and substances are subject to safe systems of work to prevent risks to health or safety.
  • Promote personal responsibility and efforts on the part of everyone to avoid and prevent health hazards and injuries to themselves and to others who may be affected by their acts or omissions and to cooperate with the organization to comply with its duties, requirements and statutory obligations..
  • Ensure the use of defensive driving techniques by car drivers and machinery operators.
  • Ensure that safety is a line management responsibility.
  • Monitor effectiveness of safety policy.
  • Dispaly and publicize this statement and review it at least bi-annually.

Employees, making sure they stay healthy and safe also have a part in:

  • Placing various duties on employers to ensure the health and safety of employees
  • Placing duties on employees to ensure their own health and safety
  • Ensuring employees have an opportunity to have input into health and safety at work
  • Giving the employee’s health and safety representatives a special role in promoting health and safety.
